The Padrón 60th is a large perfecto, a unique shape that is only the second of its kind produced by the company in its 60-year history. The cigar is crafted entirely in Nicaragua, using the finest Nicaraguan tobaccos, which have long been a hallmark of the brand. Measuring 6 1/2 inches in length with a 56-ring gauge at its widest point, this cigar is both impressive in size and complexity. It is priced at a premium of $75 per stick and is sold in boxes of 10.
Due to its meticulous production process, the cigars are being rolled and distributed at a slow pace. “We were not able to ship a lot of boxes,” Jorge Padrón, president of Padrón Cigars, shared with Cigar Aficionado. “It’s going to be very slow going out… we’re taking our time with it. The product is going to come in slowly, and we’re going to get it out as it comes.” This deliberate approach ensures that each cigar meets the brand’s high-quality standards, providing an exceptional experience to consumers.
Both natural and maduro versions of the Padrón 60th have been released, giving aficionados a choice between two of Padrón’s most beloved wrappers. This cigar, however, is distinct from previous commemorative releases. At the same time, it may remind some of the Padrón Serie 1926 80 Years cigar, which debuted in 2007; the 60th features significant differences. Unlike the box-pressed 80 Years, the 60th is round and belongs to a type of perfecto known as a Salomon, which is recognized for its bulbous foot and tapered shape. The cigar’s 56-ring gauge at its widest point narrows down to 48, offering a unique smoking experience.
“We’ve never made it before in that shape,” Jorge Padrón commented, emphasizing that blending and crafting the Padrón 60th was no simple task. The company’s focus on perfection in every detail of the cigar is part of what has made the Padrón brand so iconic over the years.
