Skanderbeg, also known as Gjergj Kastrioti, was a prominent 15th-century Albanian military commander who famously led a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire. Educated and serving under the Ottomans for twenty years, he eventually became the ruler of regions in Albania and the chief commander of the League of Lezhë, uniting Albania under his leadership. His military prowess likened to that of Alexander the Great, enabled his army to secure numerous victories from 1443 to 1468. Skanderbeg remains a revered figure in Albanian history.

“Besa,” an essential Albanian cultural concept, means “faith” or “oath” and emphasizes keeping promises, loyalty, and honor. Historically significant, it played a role in Albanian societal behavior during the Ottoman era and in World War II, where it partly motivated Albanians to save Jews from Nazi persecution.

“Bac, u kry!” is a modern Albanian slogan from Kosovo’s 2008 independence, translating to “Uncle, it’s over!” or “Dude, it is done!”

Inspired by this cultural concept, the Besa cigar is a medium-bodied cigar with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and Nicaraguan-Dominican filler. Offering flavors of hazelnut, cocoa, cedar, and a peppery finish, it’s available in Toro and Short Robusto sizes.
