Cigar News This Week: OpusX Collaboration, New World Auctions and Major New Releases

September 29, 2026 | Coverage: September 23–29, 2026

A new auction market for non-Cuban cigars, a charitable OpusX collaboration and releases ranging from small-format everyday smokes to $50 collectibles are among this week’s cigar industry headlines.

For this edition of Cigar News Network, we’re rounding up reporting from Cigar Aficionado, Cigar Coop, Cigar Journal, halfwheel and Cigar Dojo. The stories below were published during September 23–29; product launches and upcoming events have their own dates.

Bond Roberts Opens Its Auction Platform to New World Cigars

Bond Roberts is expanding beyond the Cuban cigars that established its auction business. According to Cigar Coop’s September 28 report, the company announced a New World division for collectible cigars produced outside Cuba.

The division launches with a database of 563 cigar lines and is intended to accommodate aged, discontinued and limited-production releases.

For collectors, the development creates another place to buy and sell hard-to-find cigars. It also raises a question worth watching: will greater access to auctions make these cigars easier to find, or encourage more buyers to pursue them primarily for resale?

Casa Carrillo’s Pledge of Allegiance Rockets Carries a $50 Price Tag

Casa Carrillo’s Pledge of Allegiance Rockets combines American-grown tobacco with a collectible presentation. Cigar Aficionado reported September 23 that the release consists of 250 humidors, each containing 20 cigars and carrying a $1,000 suggested price.

The 6⅜ × 58 figurados come in two blends: one featuring Connecticut broadleaf and the other Pennsylvania broadleaf. All tobacco in both blends is grown in the United States, while the cigars are rolled in the Dominican Republic. Shipping was scheduled to begin September 28.

At an effective $50 per cigar, the release provides a talking point about the value smokers place on tobacco origin, limited production and presentation.

CAO Amazon Basin Extra Añejo Returns With Two Years of Aging

CAO is bringing back Amazon Basin Extra Añejo for its second release. According to Cigar Aficionado’s September 25 coverage, General Cigar says the cigars were rolled in 2024 and rested for two years before release.

The blend retains the Brazilian Bragança tobacco associated with Amazon Basin. The 6 × 52 Toro has a suggested retail price of $15.89, comes in boxes of 18 and is scheduled to begin shipping October 1.

This release offers a useful opportunity to explore aging through a familiar blend. A comparison with the standard Amazon Basin could help smokers decide how much the additional rest changes their experience.

Carlito Fuente and Romeo Santos Announce a Charitable OpusX Collaboration

Carlito Fuente and Latin music star Romeo Santos have teamed up on OpusX Por Amor al Tío. Cigar Coop’s September 24 coverage announced the collaboration, and its September 26 industry roundup identified the beneficiaries as the Los Santos Foundation for Autism and the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation.

The announcement connects premium cigars, music and philanthropy. Beyond the collectible appeal of an OpusX release, it gives cigar audiences a reason to discuss what makes a celebrity collaboration meaningful and how partnerships can introduce brands to new adult audiences.

Gellis Essentials and Alec Bradley Chunk Sumatra Highlight Different Formats

Two September 28 stories put contrasting cigar formats in the spotlight.

Cigar Aficionado reported that Gellis Family Cigars began shipping Essentials, a 4½ × 32 cigar priced at $6.99 individually and packaged in cabinets of 50. The blend uses an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper, an Ecuadoran binder and Nicaraguan filler.

Meanwhile, a press release published by Cigar Journal announced Alec Bradley Chunk Sumatra as a permanent addition to the brand’s short, large-ring-gauge series, with shipping scheduled for October.

Together, the announcements set up a straightforward consumer debate: should cigar value depend on smoking time, size, flavor or how comfortably a format fits into someone’s day?

Hooten Young Partners With Ruger on Cigars and Bourbon

Hooten Young’s collaboration with Ruger brings together Rim Fire and Center Fire cigars alongside First-Fire Bourbon. Cigar Dojo covered the announcement September 24, while a company press release published by Breaking Bourbon described the products as produced by Hooten Young under license from Sturm, Ruger & Co.

The partnership is a useful example of cigar branding extending into another enthusiast community. Its longer-term significance will depend on whether the collaboration encourages repeat interest beyond the initial appeal of the names involved.

Dunbarton’s Overseas No. 2 Takes a Stronger Direction

In September 25 coverage from InterTabac, Cigar Journal reported that Dunbarton’s Overseas No. 2 takes a stronger, spicier direction than its predecessor.

Founder Steve Saka described the international series as a way to simplify launches through consistent packaging and numbered releases. The flavor descriptions remain his characterization of the cigar, rather than an independent tasting verdict.

The story raises a practical question for consumers: when two releases share a similar appearance but substantially different profiles, how should a brand communicate that difference?

Sans Pareil Blue Belicoso Becomes a Club Humidor Exclusive

Sans Pareil’s Blue Belicoso release brings extended aging to a retailer-exclusive format. halfwheel reported September 25 that the cigars were rolled in 2020 and allocated to Club Humidor in San Antonio, with 100 boxes available this year and a launch scheduled for September 27.

The Premium Cigar Association also published an announcement confirming the retailer collaboration and the cigars’ 2020 production.

For specialty retailers, releases like this offer a product customers cannot find throughout the regular distribution network. For smokers, the appeal combines an unusual format, documented production year and the opportunity to explore post-roll aging.

Fermin Perez Announces Production and Distribution Changes

Fermin Perez has announced a manufacturing move to Tabacalera Familia Disla in Estelí, Nicaragua, with Domain Distribution handling U.S. wholesale operations, according to Cigar Dojo’s September 27 report.

The announcement concerns two parts of the business that matter to both retailers and consumers: who makes the cigars and how they reach stores. It also gives followers of the brand a reason to watch future communications about product availability and continuity.

QI Spotlight Trade Show Returns to South Florida

A September 25 announcement carried by Cigar Journal confirmed the return of Quality Importers’ QI Spotlight Trade Show. The event is scheduled for October 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the company’s headquarters in Weston, Florida.

Cigar Coop’s earlier September 22 report identifies it as a retailer-only event. That earlier article supplies background; the September 25 coverage places the announcement within this roundup’s publication window.

With its timing ahead of the holidays, the show offers a timely topic for the retail side of the industry: how regional buying events can complement larger conventions and help stores prepare seasonal inventory.
