Chinese New Year 2027 lands on February 6 and opens the Year of the Goat. Or, if you ask Davidoff, the Year of the Sheep. The company that started the zodiac limited edition trend has announced its 2027 lineup. Like the rest of this year’s zodiac field, it’s built around shape, scarcity and collectibility.
We first saw the news in a post from Davidoff’s Instagram and press release. Below are the details confirmed by halfwheel’s report, plus a look at how Davidoff’s release fits with the other 2027 zodiac cigars, including the Plasencia El Año de la Cabra we covered this morning.
Sheep or Goat? Same Zodiac Sign, Different Name
The Chinese zodiac animal for 2027 is translated as goat, sheep or ram, and the cigar world is split. halfwheel notes that most companies have gone with the goat, but Davidoff has gone with the Year of the Sheep, just as it did a dozen years ago. So if you see “Davidoff Year of the Goat 2027” on a menu or a shop shelf, it’s the same release.
This is only Davidoff’s second Year of the Sheep cigar. The first was the 6½ x 54 Limited Edition 2015 Year of the Sheep, which halfwheel lists at 3,000 boxes of 8. That’s a good reminder of how much the series has grown since then.
The Cigars: Three Figurados, Inspired by a Sheep’s Horn
For the first time in the Zodiac Series, which dates back to 2011, Davidoff says all three vitolas are figurados, a nod to the shape of a sheep’s horn. All three share one blend, an Ecuadorian wrapper over a Dominican binder with Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. Davidoff rates each at three out of five for intensity.
According to Davidoff’s release, the Dominican tobaccos bring elegance and floral complexity, while the Nicaraguan tobaccos add body, mineral richness and depth.

- Look: Davidoff’s usual red and gold, with purple as this year’s accent color inside the box and on the sides of the secondary band. Davidoff says the box is lined with a wool-like material.

Masterpiece Gran Torpedo
- Vitola: 6 x 56

- The humidor: made in France, with designs by Chinese illustrator Jane Liu and silk embroidered by French textile artist Clémentine Brandibas, who spent more than 100 hours on each piece
The main release and the Flagship Exclusive both come with a collectible coin, part of a 12-piece set Davidoff began two years ago. Davidoff also has two zodiac accessories: a two-cigar Limoges porcelain ashtray (288 pieces) and a Year of the Sheep version of its Double Blade Cutter (388 numbered pieces).
Release Date
halfwheel lists all three cigars as scheduled for November 19, 2026. The press release shared by Epicurean Smokes says they’ll arrive at select Davidoff appointed merchants and flagship stores worldwide that day. Davidoff hasn’t announced a separate U.S. date, so expect timing to vary a little from shop to shop.
The 2027 Zodiac Field So Far
Davidoff isn’t the only company with a release for the year. Here’s what’s been announced, according to halfwheel:
- Davidoff Year of the Sheep: three figurados, starting November 19
- Plasencia El Año de la Cabra: a 6¼ x 60 perfecto, the first Plasencia zodiac cigar made in Honduras, expected in early December
- Flor de Selva Año de la Cabra 2027: Maya Selva’s all-Honduran 6 x 56 toro gordo, with 2,027 boxes of 10 planned for November. No U.S. plans have been announced yet.
- Oliva Year of the Goat: a Cameroon-wrapped 6 x 60, with 2,000 boxes of 10 for Asia, Europe and the Middle East only, and none for the U.S.
- Elie Bleu Year of the Goat: accessories rather than cigars, including humidors, cases, an ashtray, a cutter and lighters
One trend stands out: shape is the story this year. Davidoff went all-figurado, and Plasencia picked a perfecto. If you like how a figurado changes as it burns, with a tapered head and a shifting ring gauge, 2027 is your year.
The Cigar Guys Take
Davidoff’s zodiac series is the one the others are measured against. It’s now in its 16th straight year and on its second trip through the calendar, and you can see that in the details: the wool-like lining, the purple accent, and a coin set that rewards anyone who has collected every year. It ties in nicely with the brand’s other recent flagship-store releases, like the City Edition cigars for New York and Las Vegas.
The part we’re most curious about is the blend. Davidoff describes a floral, medium-intensity smoke, and a 6¾ x 52 pirámides should give that profile time to develop. We haven’t smoked one yet, so we’ll leave the tasting notes for later. Once we’ve had one, you’ll hear about it on the podcast.
